Me gustaría poder ver los caracteres emoji correctamente en mutt, pero, por ejemplo, 💗 aparece como ^ J en el buscapersonas de mutt. Corriendo
:set pager=view
y volver a abrir el mensaje muestra el carácter correctamente con vim.
El correo electrónico en cuestión está encriptado con PGP, pero creo que obtendría lo mismo con el correo electrónico sin encriptar ( https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.mail.mutt/50_MpyYkXR4 ).
También encontré esta publicación ( /programming/23526353/how-to-get-ncurses-to-output-astral-plane-unicode-characters ), que explica un posible problema con el que me estoy encontrando, pero como dije vim muestra los caracteres bien en la misma ventana de terminal. Además, estoy usando glibc 2.19, y no veo cómo estas dos aplicaciones podrían estar usando diferentes versiones de glibc en el mismo sistema.
¿Hay alguna manera de hacer que el localizador incorporado de mutt los muestre correctamente?
EDITAR: así que olvidé incluir cualquier cosa relevante que no sea 'mutt' y 'vim' ... Estoy ejecutando Debian estable con el paquete parcheado mutt.

Esperaba que el correo electrónico sin procesar estuviera codificado en base64 (porque ambas cuentas son gmail y el mensaje contiene caracteres que no son ASCII), pero es lo mismo. También parece que ningún personaje fue dañado en tránsito.
