El extraño WHOIS de Twitter.com: ¿qué está pasando?

He intentado buscar en Google esto, pero no puedo acercarme a una respuesta, y este es el único lugar en el que puedo imaginar obtener una.

Si hago whois twitter.com, obtengo una respuesta realmente extraña. Si es publicidad, entonces es el lugar más extraño que he visto para un anuncio.

Esto es solo un truco empleado por algunos registrantes que aprovecha el hecho de que whois por defecto incluye tanto entradas de host como de dominio. Las coincidencias adicionales son de entradas de host (servidor de nombres). Puede solicitar explícitamente una entrada de dominio para evitar las coincidencias de host:

EDITAR: Por cierto, también puede forzar una coincidencia parcial utilizando tres puntos (...) al final de la consulta. Esto confunde al cliente whois de Linux porque no puede determinar el dominio automáticamente, por lo que debe decirle explícitamente qué servidor whois usar:
