Su ejemplo tiene un número entero expresado como una cadena. Digamos que su entero era en realidad un entero, y desea tomar el entero y convertirlo en una cadena binaria.
int value = 8;
string binary = Convert.ToString(value, 2);
Que devuelve 1000.
int value = Convert.ToInt32("1101", 2)daría valueel valor 13.

Convert.ToInt32(string, base)no hace conversión de base en su base. Se supone que la cadena contiene un número válido en la base indicada y se convierte en base 10.
Entonces obtiene un error porque "8" no es un dígito válido en la base 2.

Sé que esta respuesta sería similar a la mayoría de las respuestas ya aquí, pero noté que casi ninguna de ellas usa un bucle for. Este código funciona y puede considerarse simple, en el sentido de que funcionará sin ninguna función especial, como un ToString () con parámetros, y no es demasiado largo también. Tal vez algunos prefieran bucles for en lugar de bucles while, esto puede ser adecuado para ellos.

Esto puede ser útil si desea una función concisa a la que pueda llamar desde su método principal, dentro de su clase. Es posible que aún necesite llamar int.Parse(toBinary(someint))si necesita un número en lugar de una cadena, pero creo que este método funciona bastante bien.
